Royal Caribbean Social
The campaigns I worked on for Royal Caribbean revolved around the call to “Come Seek” and by extension experience other cultures and customs. Showcasing foods that are unfamiliar or unexpected was the entryway to this. The projects I worked on for this were called “Fruitorials” and “Food Flags.” Both highlighted fruits or foods that are native or commonly associated with destinations Royal Caribbean cruised to in the Caribbean and Europe.
In the Fruitorials campaign, we sought to show people the variety and preparation of various native, Caribbean fruits. In the Food Flags campaign, flags of countries with ports-of-call were recreated with foods central to that country’s identity.
For both of these campaigns, I was responsible for sequencing and animating stop-motion photography & stills as well as researching the music. Once the music and visuals were prepared, I would re-time these elements to work together. I also photographed a stop-motion sequence when the creative team wanted to expand the video beyond simple hero shots of the featured item.
The Royal Caribbean emoji SMS GIFs campaign was fun and challenging in a different way. There were clues sent via SMS with emojis. Depending on the recipients response, different GIFs were prepared. These were built from video and set to loop. Due to limitations in SMS data and our distribution system, we had to keep them below 5MB. I’ve replaced the GIFs here with videos that have identical specs to the originals.
